Bike-packing, Wild-camping, and Bivying
Are you curious about sleeping out on your adventure, but not sure where to start? This workshop shares the why, how, and what to use, from Doug’s thirty years of wild-camping experience across the UK, Europe, and Africa.
There is a long history of people sleeping out while they travelled across Scotland. From Highlanders roaming the glens, to cattle drovers’ epic journeys, to fishwives transporting herring to market towns. Sleeping out in the open was, simply, part of any long-distance trip. Now it’s an essential element to bike-packing.
But how to go about it? This workshop cuts through the bike-packing industry hype to give a practical approach for year round sleeping out.
We will talk through setting realistic expectations, developing your sixth sense for sleeping out of sight, and dealing with common fears. Then we’ll get practical with seasonal bike-packing setups, no-fuss tent and bivy combo, and the layering system which enables a good sleep whatever the weather.
Doug’s goal is that you should feel confident to go out and have a great night’s sleep under the stars. We’ll be upstairs on the Biketrax terrace, with the café staying open for coffees, cakes, etc.
