Beer Bike Bust: outlaw bigger bikes, or embrace them?

In February, Police impounded a ‘beer bike’ full of revellers on Leith Walk. Common in many cities, this first local incident divided cyclists and residents. Many claimed ‘something car-sized cannot be a bike’; others criticised ‘the fun police’. Together with the recent UK Government consultation on whether to allow more powerful e-bike motors and throttle control, the definition of human-powered vehicles is under challenge. A panel of locals and experts will debate what is objectionable or to be welcomed about larger and more powerful ‘bikes’, what is currently allowed, and what part if any they should play in the transport future of pro-cycling cities.

Discussion beginning 16:15 on; two sessions with a 10-minute break.

Free event, donations welcome.
