Leith Links to Portobello Family Ride
Fun Family Cycles and EFR (Edinburgh Family Rides) Partnership are organising a bike ride from Leith to Portobello for a picnic and games on the beach, to give our kids of all ages an opportunity to cycle together in a fun and safe way.
We estimate that the 5 miles round trip will take approximately 1.5 hours, depending on the level and number of riders, leaving around 1.5 hours to enjoy the beach.
Rules: Have fun, go at your own pace, watch your kids, encourage everyone!
You bring: A picnic, water, snacks, bikes, and bike locks.
We’ll bring: Volunteers, puncture repair kits, bike curious equipment, beach games and lots of smiles!
Fun Family Cycles are informal family rides that have taken place annually, in and around Leith, over the last three years.
Edinburgh Family Rides is a family-friendly cycling group based in Edinburgh, aiming to encourage families to get out and enjoy cycling in our city. Rides are guided by trained Sustrans staff and volunteers, and are always short (under 10 miles), safe, and fun!
We are also hoping to be joined by volunteers from both Cycling UK and Bike Curious who will bring a range of family specific cycling equipment along on the day. This is a great opportunity to test out some fun, family-specific alternatives to traditional biking, from child bike trailers, to cargo bikes and e-bikes. You may also be interested in the Bike Curious workshop on 9th June which aims to help you get pedalling with your children on board!
